Japanese Food Onomatopoeia

It feels like a warm bath on a cold day to go eat Korean wild sesame steamboat with my friends and then call Peppermint Patty, an ice-cream parlour (and I do mean parlour) to ask them if they’ll stay open just a few more minutes so we can come in and squeeze ten of us in a booth while we eat poisonously green and orange ice-creams, make rude jokes and laugh uproariously then watch Iain win a hideously ugly stuffed turkey for Anna in one of those pick -up-a-toy-with-a-claw machines. Even if it is cold. Even if I miss F.

eating with gusto image

This is a picture of me eating gatsu gatsu-ly (mainly because no-one else would let me post a picture of them with their mouth full, the things I do…) To eat “gatsu gatsu” means to eat with gusto. Sounds kind of like “what a guts” in English so it’s easy to remember. I eat gatsu gatsu-ly pretty often, especially when hangrrr strikes or when I’m eating my favourite things like taco rice, Thai yum and chocolate chunk cookies.

red sticky rice image sasasunakkuMochi mochi means glutinous (not glutenous!) and sticky. Mochi mochi stuff has a chewy bite, for example mochi (natch), sticky rice like the sekihan in the picture, some kinds of mushipan and Pao de Queijo.
