Soooo….I know it’s not really the done thing to toot your own horn but I will: IT’S MY 1 YEAR BLOGOVERSARY!
This is a big deal to me, mainly because I really really wish I was one of those perservering people. All around me I’ve noticed that the people who stick at things and do things bit by bit, achieve and achieve. Perhaps you are one of those people. If so, please send in your tips on the back of a postcard and no snickering in the cheap seats that it took me 30 years to figure this out. I like to tell myself I’m a Renaissance person, but I think that’s a polite way of saying I’m a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.
The things I’ve achieved always happen in a big burst of energy; like moving countries (does that even constitute an achievement? Probably not). A few months of concerted effort in one place followed by the same in another and you’re done.
Anyway, there have definitely been times in the past year when I couldn’t really be bothered taking photos, or writing a post or uploading PDFs of recipes to the blog. But your encouragement has been the carrot that has enticed me to keep posting and now…well, now I have this sense of achievement and man, it’s great. I could get used to this. I realise that in the scheme of things, it’s pretty minor but you’ve gotta start somewhere, right? So for coming here and listening, and answering my questions and for your friendship, thank you so much – I know there are a lot of other places you could be.
I’m starting two new kinds of posts on Sasasunakku this year, both inspired by bloggers I admire for different reasons. The first are round ups of what I’ve been inspired by reading, hearing and cooking recently. I hope it helps me to notice the small details in life since smelling the roses has never been my forté and Sarah, from Pink of Perfection reminds me how important it is with her 5 senses Fridays.
The other sort is inspired by Clotilde’s French idioms. Japanese is full of onomatopoeia and sound symbolism, particularly around food and hopefully some of you will find it interesting. I’m planning to do both of these once or twice a month on top of my normal weekly story and recipe post.

Leave a comment, make my day!
Happy blog birthday! I know how it feels to reach that stage so well done for persevering and inspiring us here. It’s always great to read your posts and the new kind sound really wonderful too. I’m a big fan of Clothilde’s French idioms. Also your photos are just incredible!
I’m afraid that if you float over them you’ll see they aren’t mine at all! I got them from a Flickr group called Stock Photos or Creative Commons or something like that *^_^* I only realised it was a year yesterday and had to put a post together in a hurry.
Congratulations/happy blogoversary! I love your blog, wonderful posts and gorgeous photos. Keep up the great work!
Happy blog birthday Sasa! So glad you perservered and I think your newfangled idea is just dandy!
Love it. Do it! CONGRATS.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Blogiversary Sasa – so glad you’ve kept up with it. Like you, I’m a – umm – Renaissance Person and a food blog is about all I’ve managed to stick at too (for a year as well!) . Keep at that bit(e) by bit(e) work, it makes us all very happy.
Happy blog birthday!
So excited about the Japanese onomatopaiea and sound symbolism posts! I studied Japanese in high school (have forgotten most of it), and LOVED the onomatopaieac element.
Happy blog birthday Sasa! I felt the same way when my blog turned one a couple of months ago. A sense of accomplishment, like I had to give myself a pat on the back for sticking with it, even when at times it had been difficult. So yes, you deserve feeling good about yourself and what you have achieved thus far (including moving countries!)
I’m looking forward to another year of your stories and recipes and everything else you have planned for your space here!

Thanks for always leaving such sweet comments and another reason blogging is great is meeting e-pals like you ^_^
Woo! Happy cyberbirthday to you! I’ve enjoyed reading and will probably watch the omelet video about 257 more times before I perfect it :-). But mostly I’ve enjoyed learning about a cool person with a great story halfway around the world. Here’s to another great year!
Wow- a year. Where does the time go? Congrats on superb writing and picture taking and here’s to another year! It’s funny, I’ve been doing this for just over a year also and just when I’m out of ideas or am getting burnt out, something will pop into my head, and there I am back on the keyboard. Keep at it!
happy bloggedy birthday my dearest sasa!!!!! I’m so pleased you started blogging because without it, i wouldnt know you and my life would have been poorer for it. Love you xx
Go, Sasa! Go, Sasa! I love the sound of your ideas. I will leave you with one of the 10 words of Japanese I know: you and your blog and your cheer and friendship are oishii!
Hehe! Or do I mean ufufufu?
Is that Japanese giggling?
A fantastic celebration! I can agree with you that blogging is sometimes the last thing you want to do, but writing or photographing often brings back that whoosh of excitement or joy we felt the first time, reminding us why we started in the first place. Looking forward to another year, as well as your new changes!
Cheers,
*Heather*
Happy blog birthday! Hope there are many more to come!
Congratulations!
And here’s to your perseverance later this year too! You’ve proven that you can endure boring technical details for the big reward, so no doubt it will be a great success.
Happy blogoversary again Sasa! Your blog is such a joy to read :)
Well, I am definitely in for the Japanese symbolism :-)
Happy Birthday Sasa’s blog!

I say yay for newfangled ideas!! Happy blogoversary! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store. :D
Happy blog birthday, Sasa. So glad you kept going and made it this far – I’m sure the next year will be much easier :-) I think your “newfangled” idea are great – I love Clotilde’s french idioms, and I think you’re idea of a Japanese take on that is great. Looking forward to it.

Well done Sasa:) And your lovely blog is inspiring me to pull finger and get working on better pics, better layout , better better, so thanks and extra Happy Blog Birthday (are you having cake?)
We went to a kind of underground restaurant (hesitate to go as far as calling it a pop-up) for dinner ^_^
I totally know what you mean. I think you can now count yourself among the dedicated, Ms. Sasa!
Happy birthday to Sasasunakku, and many more to come! I can relate, being a Renaissance person myself and I will encourage you to persevere, because I enjoy reading your blog. You are one of the best writers around.
I love both of your ideas. I started learning Japanese when I was 26 and even advanced to assist the teacher, but had to stop when I got pregnant (too nauseated to drive). So bring it on!
happy blog-day!! one year?! you have done a great job… if people like me who are not interested in cooking and only cook for survival, but get inspired and ACTUALLY try out a recipe or two, then you MUST be doing a great job! omedettou!!
harro!
WOW, one year, and i’ve been with you all the time seeing the idea develop, then the blog itself, after that people came and read the blog and really liked it!
CONGRATULATIONS, its your birthday, ney i mean, your blogday!

Nothing wrong with a Jack of all Trades, perhaps because I see a bit of that in myself too. Always inspiring to be great at something then I get distracted something new just on the precipice of the goal! no regrets though. I look forward to your new blogging adventures.
Thanks for the sweet comments you guys!
Happy anniversary Sasa!
I can absolutely relate to you with the jack-of-all-trades comment. But, this blogging thing – it’s no joke – and it takes a lot of work. It’s much more than a minor achievement to make it through a year, if you ask me.
Congratulations, and here’s to many more to come =)
Happy blogoversary. Never put down being a jack of all trades. It means you’re well-rounded!
Happy Blogiversary!
I have really enjoyed reading your blog in the past few months and look forward to the new additions!
You are sure far better than me at posting, btw – Bursts of recipes every other day are swiftly followed by months of draught.
Oops!
