Three years ago, my best friend and I went from London to Paris to meet my mum and stepfather who were renting an apartment there for a few days. There was a cute little kitchen where we prepared simple dishes from things we picked up at the market -just like you’re supposed to in France – and on the table was a little book: Clotilde’s Edible Adventures in Paris. When I saw the picture on the cover, my interest was piqued and after I began reading, I devoured the entire thing – it was so charmingly written and useful, even though I knew I wouldn’t be able to do even a hundredth of what was in there in the short time we had. I then promptly forgot about the holiday, and the book, as I prepared to move house for something like the 28th time.

Smitten Kitchen is my desert island blog. From a woman who at last count had well over 200 subscriptions in her Google Reader, that’s a fairly strong statement I guess, but there it is.

Deb is one of a handful of legends in the food blogging world and justly so. Her tagline is “your new favourite things to cook” and it’s so true. She manages to be uncannily accurate in capturing the food zeitgeist and by that I don’t mean she is a food faddist, far from it – she’s completely unpretentious. However judging by the number of commenters who exclaim “I’ve been looking for something like this!” I’m not the only one who didn’t know that what Deb’s cooking is exactly what I want to cook too, until she said so.

apple doughnuts imageHappy Christmas everyone! Even if you don’t celebrate, or if you celebrate in other-than-traditional ways, I wish you all happiness and peace. I’d like to express how grateful I am for all your support this year. I’ve been surprised, over and over, by how many lovely people I’ve met through this blog, online and in person. I appreciate every kind comment, email and letter that comes my way – my life has been enriched so much by coming here and without you, naturally, I would have given up long ago so thank you! A thousand times, thank you.
