This is the artichoke-peelingest mo’fo in the west, bar none. Or none that I’ve ever seen. Actually, that’s not strictly true; F. took this video at Götztepe Market – recommended by the intrepid Robyn Eckhardt of Eating Asia whose every suggestion hit the spot –  in Istanbul which is actually on the Eastern side so it might be more accurate to say “in the east.” Either way, prepare to be amazed. By the way, this is raw and uncut in case you couldn’t tell – those bits of peel flying as if they’re on fast forward? Au naturel.

Since I live an extremely glamorous life, I recently drove to Milan with my dear friend Steffi for a spot of shopping. And by Milan I mean 40 minutes out of Milan near the birthplace of that famed cheese, the voluptuous Gorgonzola. A side-effect of being so spoilt and fancy is my inability to suffer 4-star hotels of any sort (the plush carpeting, hushed hallways, jacuzzis and obsequious staff are just too much to bear – nothing at all to do with financial constraints you understand) so we stayed with Steffi’s amusing sister who, by virtue of being married to one and having three as children, is an honorary Italian.

I said it a while ago and I’ll say it again: I’m not very good at capturing moments that have just happened. Somehow, events need a little percolation for me to be able to write about them – more than a little perhaps, my favourite posts are about events that happened years ago so I hope you’ll forgive me that all I have to say about my trip to Berlin is that I met some lovely people who I wish I could live closer to, ate some good potato salad and wandered around in a darling market wanting to buy armfuls of tulips, ranunculus and some other pretty purple flowers I don’t know the name of.
